Orthodontics

“If you want a dentist that really cares about you and not how much they can sell you, then make sure you come on down to Leanne mitchell’s office in Mullica Hill!”

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals with the abnormalities of the teeth and the jaw, and includes care that involves the use of appliances, such as braces, to straighten or align the teeth and jaw. Some people have naturally straight teeth that fit together, forming the perfect smile and bite. But many have misaligned teeth, crooked, crowded smiles, or even spaces between their teeth, causing an improper bite or prominent chin, or no chin at all.

Most people who receive orthodontic care are teens, but adults can get braces too. The two types of braces used most often are:

  • Metal or plastic brackets bonded to the teeth
  • Invisalign clear aligners

When using metal or plastic (clear) brackets, a series of wires is used to help rotate and straighten the teeth. Rubberbands can be used along with the brackets and wires to help align the bite to the most desired position.

Invisalign utilizes a series of clear aligners custom made for only you. These aligner trays are very smooth and comfortable and almost invisible. As you wear the aligners, your teeth will gradually and gently move into place, based on exact movements planned out for you. There are no metal brackets used, but sometimes tooth-colored bonded attachments are used for the most difficult movements. The best part of Invisalign is being able to straighten your teeth without most people noticing!
